Recent Deaths 15-11-08

The recent death of Mr Philip Carroll (90), Clontyduffy, Mountnugent, was a source of considerable sadness in the local community. A native of Clontyduffy, he had farmed all his life in the locality and was a noted trainer of sheepdogs, as well as an Irish music enthusiast. He and his wife Mary had been married for 62 years. Deceased is survived, in addition to his wife, by his sons Philip, Wicklow, and Gerard, Mountnugent; daughters, Kathleen Hanaphy, Dublin; Margaret O"Donoghue, Dublin; Ann Dillon, Dublin; Maeve Byrne, Dublin; Dolores McEnroe, Dublin; Joan Gilsenan, Oldcastle; Bernadette Gibbings, London, and Denise Phelan, Kilkenny, as well as other relatives. The funeral took place from Ballinacree Church to the adjoining cemetery. Mr K Price, Slane Much sadness followed the news of the recent death of Mr Kevin Price, Barristown, Slane, at Our Lady"s Hospital, Navan. He was 86. Deceased, who was a native of Rathkenny, worked with Irish Life Assurance Company for over 30 years. He was a keen gardener and was very interested in Gaelic football. Mr Price was a staunch follower of 'The Royals", was an excellent card player and hosted many a card session at his home at Barristown. He had a great love of the Irish language and more than a passing interest in Irish politics. Above all, he was a dedicated family man. Deceased is surived by his wife, Kathleen; sons, Joseph, Maperath, Kells; Philip, Williamstown, Castlebellingham, Co Louth, and Kevin, Longford, and his extended family. His funeral took place from St Patrick"s Church, Slane, to St Erc"s Cemetery, Slane. A months memory Mass will take place on Sunday 23rd November in St Patrick"s Church, Slane, at 11am. Mr T Gogarty, Ballivor The regretted death occurred on 23rd October last at Our Lady"s Hospital, Navan, of Mr Thomas Gogarty, Moyfeigher, Ballivor. Mr Gogarty (86) was a son of the late Thomas and Margaret Gogarty of Moyfeigher, and worked as a mill worker at Newman"s of Athboy until his retirement. He was a very keen gardener and was well-known in the area for his growing of cabbages and strawberries. He won many competitions for his extremely well-kept garden. Deceased is survived by his sister, Kathleen Sherrock, Ballivor; nephews and nieces from the Sherrock and Doyle families and his good friends, Robert and Esther Elliott. The funeral took place from St Columbanus"s Church, Ballivor, to the local cemetery.
