Murphy takes the reins at Trim Celtic

Highly experienced player Alan Murphy has taken over as manager of Trim Celtic, replacing Paddy O'Reilly. 

Murphy, who is from Drogheda, enjoyed a lengthy playing career in the League of Ireland with Drogheda Utd, Longford Town and Shelbourne.

He won two FAI Cup final medals with Longford Town and also represented the club in Europe. He subsequently signed for Navan Cosmos and helped them to a NEFL Challenge Cup triumph in 2017 however the senior team was disbanded soon after.

Murphy, who has UEFA coaching badges, moved on to Newfoundwell this season and played his part in helping them to a Premier title with the Co Louth side just edging out Trim Celtic for the top spot.

Murphy, a busy inventive midfielder, also spent a season some years ago as coach with Malahide Utd and was player/manager of Parkvilla for a season. He could turn out for Trim Celtic as a player also in the 2018/2019 campaign. 

O'Reilly took over as Trim Celtic manager in 2015 and guided them to a Challenge Cup triumph in 2016.

 It looked for long spells of the season just ended that O'Reilly would help Trim to a Premier crown but they faltered in the run-in with Newfoundwell claiming the glory instead.

"Managemant is about about keeping everybody happy and that can be a difficult job but I think if you're fair with people you have a chance," Murphy told the Meath Chronicle today.
