Clancy's men hit eight in Wexford

What a start to Timmy Clancy's managerial career - two games in and not only has he two wins on the board but his team has scored 14 goals.

Trim man Timmy Clancy may very well remember his first game as Drogheda Utd in the League of Ireland First Division for all the wrong reasons, it wasn't played due to an issue with the United Park floodlights.

However, the season for Drogheda eventually kicked-off last Sunday with an illuminationg performance in the daylight and a 6-0 win against Athlone Town.

Last night Drogheda hot poor old Wexford for eight at Ferrycarriag Park in a 8-1 demolition.

That all sets up an early season big clash at United Park when title favourites Galway Utd visit next Friday night to play under the lights.

It's surely a game not be missed by any Meath enthusiats for the local game and it should be a cracker as two of last season's relegated teams go head-to-head.

The big question is - will the locals in Drogheda come out to support their team, like the numbers who were at the Aviva in 2013 for the FAI Cup final? A big crowd would surely be a great boost for the hard-working Drogheda committee who toil week in, week out to keep the show on the road.
Before that, Drogheda travel to play St Mochta's in the EA SPORTS Cup on Monday.

PREMIER
What an achievement for another Meath man last night. Bohermeen's Gary Rogers hit the 500 League of Ireland appearances mark for Dundalk as they edged the verdict with the help of an added time own goal against Premier new boys Waterford at Oriel Park.

Rogers has amassed that tally with a number of clubs that include Drogheda, St Pat's Sligo Rovers and Dundalk and of course the now defunct Dublin City as well as St Francis (no longer in the League of Ireland) and he even managed a small number of games for Bray Wanderers.

Last night's win was watched by a crowd of over 2,200, but the biggest attendance last night was at Tallaght Stadium where over 4,000 saw the Shamrock get the better of St Patrick (for the weekend that's in it) with a 1-0 victory.

On Shannonside, there was a little over 1,000 packed into the Market's Field to watch Limerick do everyone else a favour by holding the mighty Cork City to a 1-1 draw,
Almost 2,500 packed into the new-look Brandywell to watch rejuvenated Derry City thump basement boys Bray 5-1 while in a soon-to-be-redeveloped Dalymount Park some 1,600 fans watched a four-goal encounter between Bohemian FC and Sligo Rovers.

Not much rest for eight of the 10 Premier teams as they return to action on Monday (really easy for away supporters) - see fixture schedule.
