Meath players on international duty

Meath players Amanda McQuillan, Cian Lee, Cian Hughes and Dominic Peppard have been included in Republic of Ireland teams for games this week.

The boys have been named in the Republic of Ireland u-16 squad for two friendlies this week against Turkey in Dublin.

Lee plays with Dublin club Belvedere, Hughes is with St Francis and Peppard plays for St Kevin’s Boys.

Manager Paul Osam has named his squad for the two friendly matches at Home Farm FC’s Whitehall ground on tonight Wednesday at 7pm and Friday at 12pm.

Turkey will provide a serious test as their side has a 100 per cent winning record in internationals this season including victories over Italy, France and the USA.

“No matter what league you play your club football in, international football is different. The thoughts and actions of every player have to be much quicker.

“Every mistake gets punished. If you slip up at the back it is almost always a goal and you’ll get less opportunities to score as well,” stated the manager.

“I know this Turkish side has played 10 games since October and that’s obviously going to have an impact on their players’ development.

“It’s going to be difficult, but hopefully we get positive performances and produce players who can play for Ireland u-17s in the UEFA Qualifiers next year,” he added.

AMANDA MCQUILLAN

Women’s u-19 manager Dave Connell has selected his squad for their UEFA European Championship Elite Phase qualifiers in Dublin and McQuillan was in action last night as the Irish were edged out (0-1) by Germany.

The two remaining Ireland games will also be hosted at Tallaght Stadium against Azerbaijan (Thursday 7th April) and Poland (Sunday 10th April).
