P&P: National title for Cathy Richardson

Cathy Richardson from the Bellewstown club scooped the ladies National Strokeplay Intermediate Championship on Saturday while another Meath woman, Margaret Delahunty from Royal Meath, took the runner-up position in the Junior category following an exciting competition at Cement P&P Club, Drogheda last Saturday.

Richardson had three shots to spare in winning the Intermediate much like she had after the first 36 holes as she was the only player under par (two under) three clear of Leinster Intermediate Strokeplay Champion, Lucan’s Phil Condron.

The Meath woman had a second 18 of four under par which was also the best 18-hole score on the day. Both players had one over par in the closing 18 holes while Laytown’s Ann Bird tied for fourth on 174.

Margaret Forde (Riverdale) took the National Junior title as she overcame a three-shot deficit after the first 36 holes to win out by seven from Royal Meath’s Delahunty in second on 180, moving from third overall at the 36-hole stage.
