Peter Brandon Somba returned to Bohermeen and retained his title when he won the 32nd Patrick Bell Memorial road race on Saturday with the laurels for the ladies event in the Nicky Phillips Memorial race going to Emma Donlon who had three seconds to spare at the line over Dunboyne's Emilia Dan.

Bohermeen AC hosted the event in memory of Patrick Bell and Nicky Phillips and unlikle 12 months ago when it was on a Sunday, the race reverted to a Saturday evening.

The popular annual event commemorates the late Patrick Bell who tragically died following a traffic accident in 1985 at the age of 25 and it also commemorates the late Nicky Phillips who was the mile champion in Meath in the 1930s.

Pauline Rennicks, a sister of the late Patrick Rennicks, made the presentations while there was also a contingent of 20 runners from France who added an extra dimension to the occasion.

To mark the participation of the French, all the entrants were eligible for a draw for a week for four in the south of France and that was won by Fiona Kelly.
