Gaeil Colmcille win Junior B title

Gaeil Colmcille posed too many questions for Kilbride in a Junior B final that produced lots of good football at Pairc Tailteann today.

A Gaeil Colmcille side laced with experience took the spoils with a merited 4-16 to 1-14 victory.

Goals proved crucial and the Kells side managed a brace in each half and that was a key factor in the victory.

Gaeil Colmcille made the best possible start with a third minute Danny Muldoon goal that was created by a defence-splitting Stevie McManus pass.

They added points from Gary Arkins and Shane Freeman before Michael Farrell got Kilbride off the mark with a seventh minute pointed free.

Kilbride then enjoyed their best spell of a wind-assisted first-half with three pointed Stephen McMullen frees, but the Kells side settled into the game and took control with some good football.

Barry Farrelly sent over three (two frees) points with his opening effort from play a superb score while Evan Sheridan was also on the mark.

Again Kilbride countered with a brace from Joseph Donnelly, but Gaeil Colmcille found a good response again in the form of a 25th minute Farrelly goal.

Farrelly added two more points and McManus also hit the target before Kilbride grabbed a lifeline with a Farrell goal in added time.

That left Gaeil Colmcille with a solid 2-9 to 1-6 interval advantage and they sustained the momentum after the break with three points from Arkins and one each from McManus, Cian Doogan, Farrelly and Cormac Mattimoe.

Those points were augmented by the second-half goals from McManus and a late Dylan Roche effort.
