TUESDAY FOCUS - O'Mahonys win plus other results
Navan O'Mahonys did enough to win this second round SFC encounter against St Colmcille's by 0-12 to 0-9 at Páirc Tailteann this evening as they managed an equal number of points in each half.
The result sends the teams in different directions as the Navan men top the table with two wins out of two and St Colmcille's are also two out of two - defeats.
O'Mahonys were poor in the finishing department in the opening half with a total of seven wides and a number of efforts that dropped short and were cleared by a grateful St Colmcille's defence.
However, a brace of points from play by Ruairi O Coileain and one from a free augmented scores from Dylan Regan, Jake Regan and Shane Gillespie eased O'Mahonys into a 0-6 to 0-4 lead at the interval.
St Comcille'swere without James Conlon, but  were ahead briefly at the end of the first-quarter. Overall they were too ponderous in the opening half and had to settle for points from Ben Brennan (two), Jack Reynolds and Graham Reilly.
O'Mahonys also lost Gillespie to a 30th minute black card and he was replaced by Darragh Smyth for the second-half.
O'Mahonys reeled off five third-quarter points with Jake regan (two), Paul Whelehan, O Coileain (free) and James Reilly on target while St Colmcille's could only manage scores from Brennan (free) and Reilly.
Excitement for the spectators was never a factor, but that won't concern O'Mahonys who did enough in the closing stages with a solitary O Coilean point to their dredit despite conceding to Conor O'Byrne, David O'Byrne and Ciaran Kelly.
