Bective GAA club awards night a big success

Bective GAA club officials, players and supporters enjoyed a well-organised awards celebration at the Ardboyne Hotel, Navan lst night where Cathal McConnell scooped the player-of-the-year awards.

'It has been a great year for the Bective club, they won two of the competitions, the JFC title which was the main one and they also won the Tailteann Cup,' commented Meath Co Board chairman Conor Tormey who presented the medals to the players.

'They have been knocking on the door for a few years now and they got their rewards in 2016, so well done to all involved with the club,' he added.

Bective chairman Jim Sullivan was delighted with the success that the club achieved in 2016.

'It's 19 years since we won the title and it's great to win it and move up a grade for 2017, we have been knocking on the door for the last few years and to win the Tailteann Cup as well was a great achievement by the players,' said the club chairman.

'It was great to win the JFC final, but you would have to have some feelings for the poeple involved with our neighbours Dunsany, yes, it was great to beat them in the final, but they have also been knocking on the door for many years.

'This year will be a big challenge for us in the IFC, our aim will be to get promotion in the league and consolidate our place in the championship.

'Jody (Devine) is our manager again this year and he has plans in place and targets for us to achieve.

'We have our annual meeting next weekend also and I'm urging more people to join us and help out, even if it's only for one or two hours per month, every little bit helps,' he added.

Team manager Jody Devine heaped praise on the players as he looks forward to the challenges that 2017 might bring.

'It's as tough at junior level as it is at intermediate, but I have confidence in the players, if they apply themselves properly they won't be out of place in the IFC this year,' he commented.

'We are back training now and getting ready for the first game against Ballivor in the Corn na Boinne and then the league gets under way, the players have the ability and I'm sure they will deliver the results,' he added.
