Narrow wins for omahonys and dunboyne

Defending champions Navan O'Mahonys proved too strong for wasteful Donaghmore/Ashbourne as they secured their second SFC win in a row in a repeat of last year's Keegan Cup decider at Walterstown this evening, while Donal Lenihan swept the ball over the bar in the dying seconds to snatch a last gasp victory for Dunboyne against Wolfe Tones in the SFC at Pairc Tailteann.

Jake Regan's punched goal gave O'Mahonys a 1-3 to 0-3 interval lead and while they were the better team they were assisted by the fact that Donaghmore/Ashbourne hit 16 wides and also lost Andy Tormey to a red card for the final few minutes.

In Navan Lenihan struck with almost the last kick of the game to give his side a 1-0 to 1-9 victory and make it two wins from two outings in the championship for his team.

With the help of the breeze Wolfe Tones lead for most of the opening half with Fiachra Ward firing low to the net for them.

However Dunboyne improved as the half went on and with the help of a well-taken Stephen Moran goal they drew level and at the break each side had 1-6 on the scoreboard.

In a scrappy second-half neither side could grasp the initiative. Wolfe Tones had their chances but they were unable to take full advantage.

With time almost up the ball was moved up field, Lenehan won possession and split the posts for the winning score.
