Roadworks to continue until end of October

There is no end in sight for the traffic chaos in Navan with confirmation from Meath County Council that works at the Railway Street Roundabout are set to continue until the end of October.

The works, which have resulted in Circular Road being reduced to just one lane with temporary lights, have led to traffic mayhem around the town, creating lengthy tailbacks at the Trim Road, Railway Street, Dublin Road and Ludlow Street.

The situation has been exacerbated by other road resurfacing works that are also taking place this week around the town including  Brews Hill and O'Growney Terrace, resulting in the whole town being choked with traffic.

The scheduling of all these works together has angered and frustrated motorists who have been left sitting in traffic jams as they tried to get to or from work. Businesses have also been feeling effects with many shoppers turning back and avoiding Navan altogether.

Road resurfacing works at O'Growney Terrace, which created problems for traffic coming from the Kells Road were completed yesterday, while works at Brews Hill are continuing today between Aldi and the junction of Brews Hill and Railway Street but are due to be completed this evening.

However, the works at the Railway Street roundabout involve a major upgrade and will continue until the end of October- news that the thousands of motorists who are impacted will not be happy to hear, particularly with local schools returning in just two weeks time.

The works at the Railway Street/Circular Road junction involve footpath improvements, traffic calming measures and enhanced pedestrian crossing facilities. A council spokesperson said: 'Traffic management is in operation for the duration of the works and alternative routes have bene signposted.

'Works will be ongoing until the end of October 2017, and some delays and disruption can be expected. Meath County Council will minimise this as far as possible.

'Meath County Council appreciates the co-operation of the public and local business and apologises for any inconvenience caused.'
