Making hay while the sun shines....in November!

Could this be some sort of record?

Yes the weather has been mild and dry (up to today) but making hay in November....seriously??

Well that's exactly what Dunderry farmer Gus Martyn was up to yesterday. Several farmers stopped to view the goings on and thought Gus had gone mad. But he managed to make 40 bales of hay, which was baled by local contractor John Joe McGourty yesterday.

This was the second cut on the field, with Gus making hay during the summer. A week ago, he mowed the grass with the intention of making silage. But when the weather stayed mild and with plenty of sunshine, he made silage around the headlands but decided to make hay in the middle of the field.

'The weather came good and I said to myself, we can make hay in the middle of the field. It is a big open field. I rang the contractor John Joe McGourty and he thoguht I was mad but he came and had a look and said it was definitely fit for hay.

'It must be nearly a record, for hay to be made in November,' said Gus.
