EuroMillions joy for one lucky Meath man

It's been a dream start to the New Year for one lucky County Meath resident who has scooped half a million euro in the Christmas EuroMillions draw.

The unnamed man from Meath picked up his cheque from National Lottery headquarters yesterday after winning the EuroMillions Plus top prize of €500,000 on Tuesday 22nd December.

His joy was quickly doubled when he learned that he'd be taking home a cheque for €500,000 and not €250,000 as he previously thought.

'There were two winners that night so I was sure I'd have to share the €500,000 with the other winner. To be honest, €250,000 was amazing and I was more than delighted but now that I know it's double that amount, I'm speechless,' said the lucky winner, who wishes to remain anonymous.

A regular EuroMillions player, the man bought his €6 ticket in Daybreak at Maudlin Street, Kells. He picked his own numbers, most of which have a special meaning for him.

He added that he was looking forward to the New Year when he will make plans for his windfall.
