Arrest following armed robbery in kildalkey

A man is being held for questioning at Trim Garda Station in relation to an armed robbery yesterday evening at the Village Stores in Kildalkey.
At around 5.45pm two men armed with a handgun and crowbar entered the Village Stores and threatened staff. The raiders left empty handed in a navy blue Hyundai Accent car 01KK which drove at speed in the direction of Athboy, There was one other person in the car and two dogs.
Staff members were not physically injured but were shaken by the ordeal.
Following an appeal for information on the Meath Crime Prevention Facebook page, there was a great response from the public and in the early hours of this morning a house was identified and placed under surveillance. The car used in the armed robbery was also observed at the same house
Gardai from Kells, Trim, Mullingar and the Air Support carried out a search and one man was arrested after a short pursuit. The car involved in the robbery was also recovered.
The male is currently detained at Trim Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. Gardai have thanked everyone who responded to the appeal for information and contacted Trim Garda Station.
