The late Shane Greaney.

Death of young enfield sportsman shane greaney

The death has occurred of young Enfield man, Shane Greaney, after an illness.

Shane had fought bravely an illness for some time and his passing at the young age of 27 leaves a huge void for his family, friends and also Na Fianna CLG.

Na Fianna issued a tribute offering condolences to Shane's mother Teresa, sister Christina, girlfriend Grainne, grandmothers Mary and Marie, extended family, friends and team-mates on Shane's untimely passing this morning.

Shane was a vital and popular member of Na Fianna hurling and football squads for many years. He won a historic Intermediate Hurling Championship winners medal and a Minor HC in 2006 and also won a Leinster Club HL in 2011. Shane also lined out regularly for Junior football teams in the club.

Shane was a well-known and much loved figure in the Enfield area especially from his work as a barman in Flattery’s, the Slige Mór, the Hamlet Court hotel and also Coffey's garage. He was a friendly face and always up for a laugh and he will be sorely missed in the wider community.
Similar to his playing style, Shane fought his illness heroically and even then was still full of his trademark wit and humour. Shane leaves us all with nothing but fond memories and smiling faces from the good times we shared with him.
