Child of Courage award for Peter McMahon

Six-year-old Peter McMahon from Cormeen was a recipient of the Child of Courage accolade at the Rehab Group-promoted Meath Person of the Year awards at the Headfort Arms Hotel, Kells last night where a packed Kenlis Suite listened with great attention as his mother Claire outlined the tremendous fortitude of her son.

Young Peter was accompanied on stage to by his mother Claire and his father William and sister Aimee to a huge ovation on an emotional night for the family and were interviewed with great understanding by MC Ken Murray as the audience listened attentively.

Peter, who celebrated his sixth birthday last week, had to battle Leukaemia as an 18-month old baby, but over a four-year period successfully met the challenge.

Little Peter was incredibly ill, so ill in fact that he couldn't even cry and had only five per cent lung capacity at one stage.

Now, Peter has fully recovered as was evidenced last night and the McMahon family are now a happy family again with an extra addition, a new sister Clodagh.

Just to show how well he is, Peter was invited to draw the tickets for the raffle on the night and did so with great enthusiasm.
