Orlagh McLaughlin, the newly elected Festival Queen, gets Dunshaughlin Harvest Festival 2013 off to a flying start at the festival launch in Dunshaughlin, at Rathbeggan Lakes on Sunday.

Dunshaughlin set for Harvest Festival

The newly-crowned Harvest Queen launched the town’s Harvest Festival at the weekend, following her selection on Saturday night. The festival takes place this week, from Thursday 26th to Sunday 29th September.
The Queen Contest night was a huge success with over 200 people packing Peter’s Bar to vote for the new Dunshaughlin Harvest Festival 2013 queen on Saturday night. Seven entrants got into the festival spirit and put themselves forward to be the face and personality of the festival. Each and everyone of them did the village proud and at the end of the night the audience votes combined with the panel of judges voted in Orla McLaughlin as the winning queen.
Orla is a Maynooth Arts graduate and a lover of all things sport - in particular GAA, local club Royal Gaels and she is a former Meath goalkeeper. She is the daughter of Pat and Pauline McLaughlin and sister to Iain and Patrick.
Bythe end of the week, Dunshaughlin will be in full festive mode with the festival concert ‘A Fusion of World Music’ launching the festival on Thursday 26th September. Friday’s main event is the ghost event with a trip through newly discovered haunted mines in the heart of the village.  Main Street will be closed on Saturday 28th September as the festival takes to the streets. A soap box derby, street entertainers, giant musical chairs, face painting, Irish dancing, theatrical wrestling, rocket launches and drama at the courthouse will be followed by Electric Lemon performing a free concert at 8pm.
Sunday is a fun-filled family day with races, country games, cookery demos, children’s dog show, petting farm, street theatre and lots more entertaining festival goers.
The Dunshaughlin Harvest Festival, now in it’s third year, is a fantastic annual fun-filled festival with music, drama, dance, heritage events, food and craft markets, country sports and plenty of good old-fashioned games for the children.
