Patrick McNally, Stackallen and Navan

 

Widespread regret was aroused by the recent death at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan, of Mr Patrick (Paddo) McNally, formerly of Wigger’s Cross, Stackallen, and Millbury Nursing Home, Navan.

Aged 70 and a native of Wiggers’s Cross, the late Mr McNally worked for many years for the Meade family of Stackallen and later for Mrs Elizabeth Burke at Stackallen Stud.

Blessed with a great sense of humour, he was a familiar figure on the road between Navan and Slane, whether thumbing a lift or waiting for the bus on his way to the bookies to place his daily bets.

Mr McNally played football for Stackallen Rovers in his earlier years and was an avid fan of English league side Wolverhampton Wanderers, as well as being a supporter of Navan O’Mahonys and the Dublin senior GAA team.

Predeceased by his parents, Paul and Esther, deceased is survived by his brothers Tommy, Derbyshire, England; Paul, Navan, and William, Stackallen; sisters, Betty Flynn, Dublin; May Donnelly, Dublin; Rosie Smith, Dunderry, and Anna Matthews, Stackallen; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces, and other relatives. He was also predeceased by his brother, John.

The funeral Mass took place in St Patrick’s Church, Slane, with burial in St Erc’s Cemetery, Slane.  

Annie Duffy, Oberstown

There was considerable sadness following the passing of Annie Duffy, Oberstown, Tara, at Mowlam Nursing Home, Kilmainhamwood, on 16th October last, aged 90.

Deceased was born in a village called Boleybreen, tucked away in the shadows of Croagh Patrick, near Westport in Co Mayo. At the age of 16, she moved with her parents and family to Candlehill in Skryne. Annie devoted her whole life to her family and the running of the family farm. In later years, she cared for her two brothers, Mike and John, until their passings. In 2008, after her health deteriorated, she was cared for at Kilmainhamwood Nursing Home, where she passed away peacefully.

She is survived by her brother, Austin, Mulhussey, Kilcock; sister, Kathleen Lough, Oberstown, Tara; nephews; nieces; relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Conway, Oberstown, and her brothers, John and Mike, also Oberstown.

The funeral took place from St Colmcille’s Church, Skryne, to the adjoining cemetery.  

Angela Shaw, Skryne and London

 The recent death occurred in Kingsbury, London, on 4th October last, of Angela Shaw, a member of the McCabe family of Five Roads, Skryne.

She was predeceased by her father, John Joe; mother, Molly, and sister, Doalie.

She is survived by her husband, George Shaw; brothers, Joey, Christopher and Gus; sisters, Cepta, Teresa, Rosleen, Mary, Eileen and Betty; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and other relatives.

The funeral took place from St Colmcille’s Church, Skryne, to the adjoining cemetery, celebrated by Fr Thomas O’Mahony, Skryne, and Fr Joe Gleeson, Rathfeigh.

 

Benny Martin, Oristown

The regretted death occurred on 30th September last of Benny Martin, Bog Road, Oristown, Kells, at St James’ Hospital, Dublin, aged 63.

Deceased was a native of Oristown, and was predeceased by his mother, Mary, in Birmingham, in 2013, and his uncles, Jim and Micheal, Oristown.

He is survived by his aunt, Nancy Murrihy, London; uncles, Mattie, London, Paddy, Oristown, Eddie, Ardbraccan, and Brendan, Oristown; cousins; and a large circle of friends.

The funeral took place from St Catherine’s Church, Oristown, to Gibbstown Cemetery.

 

Colm Duffy, Navan

 

The death of Colm Duffy, Townspark, Navan, on 10th October last, was the source of widespread sadness. Aged 68, he was a native of Skryne, and was predeceased by his wife, Bernadette, in 2002.

Colm is survived by his sons, Colm, Townspark, and Trevor, Waterford; daughter, Loretta O’Brien, Navan; son-in-law, Kieran O’Brien; grandson, Tom O’Brien; brothers; sisters; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; relatives and friends.

The funeral took place from St Mary’s Church, Navan, to Skryne Cemetery.

 

Kay Breslin, Kingscourt

 

The regretted death occurred on 9th October last of Kay Breslin (nee Owens), Barley Hill, Kingscourt, at her home, aged 82. She is survived by her husband, Paddy, sons, Martin, Patrick, Sean and Lee; grandchildren; nephews; nieces; extended family members and friends.

The funeral took place from St Patrick’s and St Brigid’s Church, Meath Hill, to Kingscourt Cemetery.

Mary Malone, Kilmainhamwood

The death occurred recently, in her 91st year, of Mary (May) Malone (nee Clarke), Lisnagrew, Kilmainhamwood, Kells, and formerly of Mullagh, Co Cavan, peacefully at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan.

Predeceased by her husband, John (Johnny), she is survived by her daughters, Marion Mitchell and Carmel Hurley; sons, John, Jim, Robert, Harry and Brendan; sons-in-law, Larry and Donal; daughters-in-law, Rosie, Ruth, Rose, Paula and Angela; grandchildren, sister-in-law; nephews; nieces; relatives and friends.

The funeral took place from the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kingscourt, to the adjoining cemetery.

Walter Burns, Oldcastle

 

There was considerable sadness following the passing on 13th September last of Walter (Wattie) Burns, St Brigid’s Terrace, Oldcastle, at Cavan General Hospital, aged 89.

A native of Oldcastle, he was a retired shop owner and former secretary of the Oldcastle Agricultural Show. Deceased was a keen bridge, golf and tennis player, flower arranger, and opera and classical music enthusiast.

He is survived by his nephews, Gerard Burns (Naas), Kieran Donohoe (Loch Gowna, Co Cavan), and John and Brian Donohoe (London); niece, Noelle Burns (Naas); cousin, Kathleen Morgan (Oldcastle); sister-in-law, Breda Burns (Naas), cousins, grandnieces, grandnephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

The funeral took place from St Brigid’s Church, Oldcastle, to Moylagh Cemetery.
