Gaeltacht Minister in visit to Rath Chairn
Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Pat Carey, visited Ráth Chairn to mark the area's 75 years as a Gaeltacht. The Ráth Chairn Gaeltacht was founded in 1935 when people moved from the western seaboard to their new houses and 22 acre farms on 12th April 1935 of that year. To commemorate the move, 2010 is designated to celebrate the language and the culture of the area. Comharchumann Ráth Chairn, the local development agency in charge of the community centre and other initiatives, invited Minister Carey to visit the area to familiarise himself with the work of the comharchumann and to view the plans for the year, which include finishing the office complex and social houses and refurbishing the centre, classrooms, and offices. President Mary McAleese is scheduled to visit Ráth Chairn next Tuesday, 11th May, as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations.
