Maritime festival kicks of maxol seven

Maxol is embracing the Irish festival season this summer by sponsoring not only one, but seven different festivals nationwide.

Kicking off with the Irish Maritime Festival on 19th-21st June, visitors will enjoy towering tall ships, pirate battles, dragon boats, Moreish food, music and more on the quaint quayside of Drogheda Port. With all that sea air working up an appetite, local chefs will be dishing out some delicious artisan food. There’s something for everyone as two large stages come alive with music acts, choirs, dance groups and theatre.

Next up is Killarney Music and Food Festival taking place, 27th-28th June, avid fans of Westport will know it has relocated here. A simply stunning new venue, visitors to the Killarney House demesne venue will also get the chance to taste some of Ireland’s finest foods prepared by Michelin chefs. Comedy lovers will enjoy a good belly laugh with Deidre Kane and the Après Match crew, not to mention the cream of the crop in music with performances by Duran Duran, Burt Bacharach, Texas, The Stunning, ABC, Jools Holland, The Undertones and many more.

Hopefully the sun will be shining in the sunny Southeast, for the Day Tripper Music Festival, 3rd-5th July. For fans of UB40, Soul II Soul, The Darkness, Maverick Sabre or local heroes Propeller Palms, this is the festival for you. All you need to do is grab a pair of dancing shoes, zap up the energy of the crowd and be immersed in the cool music vibes.

Get a move on to Groove Musical Festival in Killruddery House, Co Wicklow 4th-5th July. This classic venue is an ideal spot for chilling with friends while listening to legendary artists such as Christy Moore, Delorentos and Toasted Special. Groove also offers an activity centre for children and adults wishing to embrace their inner child, with some friendly rivalry on the climbing wall or water sphering. For the younger ones, this year will see an Enchanted Garden at Killruddery House, with games galore in a gorgeous safe environment.

Staying in the Déise, Spraoi Music and Arts Festival, or known to the locals as “The Spraoi Weekend,” will take place 31st July - 2nd August. The Maxol plaza stage at quayside always draws big music crowds and the Spraoi Parade is an impressive sight to be enjoyed by all the family. Throughout the weekend the streets are filled with activity and street performers from around the globe. As the name itself “Spraoi” oozes fun, youngsters are invited to take an adventure to explore the world of arts and science. See the streets turn into a stage for this three-day event and be at the heart of the action.

Kodaline, Basement Jaxx, The Dandy Warhols, Ash, and many more acts take on Indiependence Music Festival 31st July – 2nd August. Take your pick between camping, bringing your own caravan, or glamming it up in a pod-pad. For family campers, Mitchelstown Youth Café will be amusing your little ones with spray art, board games, arts & crafts and jewellery making. So dig your wellies out and get yourself to Deep Farm, Mitchelstown Co Cork.

To finish the summer of in true music style, one for the agenda is the iconic “Belsonic” festival in August in Belfast city centre. Visitors are in for a real treat with some of the best acts in the music business such as Paloma Faith, Stereophonics, Above and Beyond, and All Time Low.
