Artists Seán Guinan and Naomi Vona.

'Ask the Artist' series continues in Athlone

Luan Gallery in Athlone will host the third episode of the Ask the Artist talk series with Italian artist Naomi Vona and Athlone born painter Seán Guinan. Following the success of the last artist talk and Q&A session with Tom Climent on abstract art, this episode will bring the work of those two artists closer to Athlone’s audience.

Aedín McGinn, Assistant Manager of Athlone Arts & Tourism said: 'These two artists are from different backgrounds and are active in two very different artistic fields. Saturday’s conversation with them aims to illuminate the processes behind the making of art works, the inspirations behind them and the challenges to the common conceptions of art. It promises to be a great treat for the audience as they will get the opportunity to meet not one but two out of three artists exhibiting in Luan Gallery until Sunday 29th June.'

Continuing the abstract art theme from last episode of Ask the Artist, the audience will be able to deepen their experience of Seán’s art. Naomi will finally be able to answer the question which many of our visitors ask; ‘Why did she cover the faces of people on her collages of photographs?’

The discussion will be led by Catherine Ivers, producer of Athlone Community Radio’s weekly show ‘For Arts Sake’. It will be recorded live and broadcasted on air in the coming weeks on ACR’s Wednesday art show.

Emma King, volunteer at Luan Gallery said:I am a big fan of the Ask the Artist series! I have really enjoyed the concept and the relaxed atmosphere during these events and have attended each event since the first one with Paul Quast,. It’s easier to better understand the art after meeting and talking with the artists”.

To generate interest in this discussion Luan Gallery invite the public to send questions for Naomi and Seán prior to the talk through twitter @AthArtHeritage.

The talk is open to the public, free of charge, with tea and coffee served. Ask the Artist Episode 3 is on Saturday 14th June from 1pm to 2pm. Pre-booking is advised to avoid disappointment.
