Clancy one step from glory

Trim man Tim Clancy is just 90 minutes away from guiding Drogheda united back to the League of Ireland Premier Division following Monday night's SSE Airtricity League Promotion/Relegation play-off first leg win over Finn Harps.
Drogheda missed out on automatic promotion from Div 1 after finishing second behind Shelbourne, but a stunning hat-trick from Enfield man Luke McNally in the play-off against Cabinteely set-up the promotion/relegation clash with Donegal side Finn Harps.
On Monday night Chris Lyons netted a late, late winner at United Park as Drogheda sealed a 1-0 aggregate lead over Finn Harps to take with them for their visit to Donegal for Friday’s second leg.
Man of the match Lyons fired past Anthony McGinley in the Harps net almost three minutes into added-on time to seal a dramatic victory for the hosts, who are seeking to replace Harps in the Premier Division next season.

"If we are anyway below the effort level, the energy, the application, the attitude we had tonight we’re going to find it very hard on Friday," Clancy said.

"I’m hoping we can play better. There was very little in the game. We’ve operated at a lower level this season, it’s going to be difficult.

"Scoring late on is always an ecstatic feeling, we battled really well. It’s given us a small leg up."
