Heartbreak for the Hoops as Muirhevnamor win Challenge Cup final

There was heartbreak for Trim Celtic as they lost 2-3 to Muirhevnamor in the Challenge Cup final at the MDL today.

Both sides produced plenty of attacking football but in the end the Dundalk side went home with the silverware after taking more of the chances that came their way.

Mickey O'Kane put Muirhevnamor 1-0 up before Eoin O'Connor got to the end of a Dean Courtney to make it 1-1 just before the break.

Alan Murphy's side took the lead early in the second-half  when Aaron Williams fired the ball to the net however Muirhevnamor equalised a few minutes later with Martin Smith heading home.

Both sides had chances to add to their account however with 68 minutes on the clock Billy Smith got to the end of long ball into the Trim Celtic box and he netted for what proved to be the winner.

In the 84th minute Courtney whipped the ball into the box and it looked like Trim Celtic might get another equaliser from a goalmouth scramble but the ball was cleared.

There was a brief schmozzle at the end of the game but Muirhevnamor were left to celebrate a victory that was overall deserved.
