Three for Keane and Lyons on Irish Derby day

Next to winning the Irish Derby having three winners on Derby Day at the Curragh is a fair compromise for Ger Lyons and Colin Keane today.

The impressive Siskin completed the three-timer for Lyons and Keane in the Gain Railway Stakes for owner Khalid Abdullah.

Keane eased into the lead about two furlongs out for a  two-and-a-half length win over the Aidan O'Brien-trained Monarch Of Egypt.

Siskin won the Marble Hill Stakes last month and will now be aimed at the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes.

“We have the best jockey in the country riding for us and Juddmonte are on the team now," stated Lyons.

"After the Marble Hill this was my immediate plan, it's a great day but you are as good as your last winner,” he added.

The day started well for the duo with a thrilling win in the opening Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire Handicap when Buffer Zone won first time out for the
Kiltale-based handler.

Previously trained by Roger Charlton, Buffer Zone last ran on 1st September 2018.

Winner number two on derby day arrived when Basic Law bounced back to win the Dubai Duty Free The Irish Village Handicap to add to earlier wins at Leopardstown and Gowran Park twice.
