Dunshaughlin make statement of intent

Anthony Moyles's Dunshaughlin side showed they mean real business in the SFC when they produced a power-packed performance to defeat O'Mahonys 2-12 to 1-9 at Rataoth this evening.

Apart from a very brief spell in the opening half Dunshaughlin led all the way providing a platform for victory at the break when they led 2-5 to 0-3.

Caoimhin King rolled back the years to grab the opening goal of the game on 10 minutes with a super finish after a sweeping move and just before the break richly talented young forward Luke Mitchell also found the net.

O'Mahonys got a goal back early in the second-half when Dunshaughlin netminder Adam McDermott was unable to hold onto the ball when it was lofted into his square and Oisin O'Brien was on hand to score from a metre or two out.

Dunshaughlin's fast-paced football caused all sorts of problems for O'Mahonys who struggled to turn chances into scores. Mitchell finished with 1-3.

Matthew Costello hit four points for Dunshaughlin who were only denied another goal or two by some sharp saves by O'Mahonys' netminder Marcus Brennan. Matthew Moyles (two), King, Neil Byrne and Tadhg O Dushlaine also fired over for the winners.

A busy forward for the Brews HIll side, who lost Stephen Bray with an injury early on, was Cathal Smyth who also hit three pionts while Conor Finnegan, Dylan Regan, O'Brien (two), Aodhan Mallon and Henry Finnegan also pointed but they needed more to derail a Dunshaughlin side who took a huge step towards securing a place in the knock-out phase with this win.
