Longwood's Mickey Burke in SFC action against Ratoath

Ratoath in seventh heaven as Longwood fade

Longwood endured a harrowing introduction to senior football as Connell Ahearne finished with a remarkable personal tally of 4-7 to boost Ratoath to a comfortable 7-16 to 0-11 victory at Trim this afternoon.

Ahearne bagged a brilliant goal in the opening period as Ratoath dominated and with Jack Gillespie and Conor Rooney also finding the net Ratoath were 3-6 to 0-7 clear by half-time.

Within six minutes of the restart Ahearne bagged another three goals and he quickly tagged on three successive points to stretch his side's lead to 6-9 to 0-7 at the three-quarters stage.

Longwood refused to lie down and they never gave up the fight, but their brave battle was a futile one as Rooney added a seventh goal for Ratoath in injury-time to seal the win.
