Opportunity knocks for aspiring GAA match officials

Those who want to become GAA referees can do so by participating in a course that takes place in Dunganny, on Tuesday and Wednesday 26th and 27th February with an 8pm start each evening.

Young officials who have already taken steps to become referees are also invited to participate in the course.

The Meath GAA Co Board Referees' Administrator Frank Gallogly is encouraging clubs to put people forward for the course. He is particularly encouraging those clubs who don't have anyone on the referees panel.

"This is a call to all clubs and particularly clubs without an active referee," he outlined. "This course will appeal to all that want to assist in the promotion of the game in our county as well as referees that have done a 'Young Whistlers' course over the last number of years and want to move on to adult refereeing.

"Clubs with bigger population including all urban clubs should at least have two referees and provide whatever assistance the require, in the form of supplying umpires and sourcing gear for the both referees and umpires."

Those who complete the referees' course will be presented with certs at a function in  Croke Park by the President of the GAA John Horan.
