Death of former Navan Sinn Fein councillor, Anne Gibney

The death took place on Monday evening of Anne Gibney, Navan, a former member of the town’s urban district council.
From Claremont, Anne served as a Sinn Fein councillor. On Monday night, current Navan town Sinn Fein councillor, Eddie Fennessy, said: “With great sadness I learned today of the passing of former Sinn Féin Councillor, Anne Gibney from Claremont. I was fortunate to have known Anne most of my life, we were neighbours, comrades and friends. My thoughts are with her family at this difficult time. ‘While we are mourning the loss of our friend, others are rejoicing to meet her behind the veil’ Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hAnam dhilís.”

Formerly Johnstown and nee Morgan, Ms Gibney died peacefully in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. Pre-deceased by her husband Dermot, she is survived by her son Jack and daughter Jane, grandchildren Ryan, Dermot, Jasmine and Rachel, sister Jane (Newport, Wales), nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Her remains are reposing on Friday in St Joseph’s Chapel of Rest, Old Johnstown, Navan, from 4pm-8pm with a celebration of Anne’s life at 7.30pm followed by removal at 8pm to Anne’s home for family only. Arriving at Mount Jerome Crematorium on Saturday morning for cremation at 10:30am.
