Tayto Park, Ireland’s only theme park and zoo, has announced the opening of 'Lemur Woods' which will see the arrival of 15 ring tailed lemurs to Ireland’s largest lemur walkthrough.

Lemur Woods is the latest addition to the zoo at Tayto Park located in Ashbourne, and will give visitors an immersive experience with these incredible endangered species. Set in a large habitat in a natural woodland visitors will walk along a looped pathway within the enclosure, creating a fun, dynamic experience giving visitors the opportunity to see and learn all about these fascinating and lovable primates closer than ever before.

Ring tailed lemurs are the sixth species of primate to join the zoo at Tayto Park. Endemic to Madagascar their most distinguishing feature is their long, thick, tail with black and white rings. Ring tailed lemurs are social animals and live in groups known as troops, the Tayto Park troop is made up of young individuals who are part of the European Endangered Species Breeding Programme.

Tayto Park’s Zoo Manager, Lee Donohoe says: "We’re delighted to welcome lemurs to the zoo. Adding new species to our collection is always an exciting time but even more so when they have such conservation importance. Lemur Woods is a fantastic opportunity to teach visitors of all ages about Madagascar and its species but doing it in a fun and memorable way’.
