Bulfin to be appointed new Meath boss

There will be a degree of continuity next season for the Meath hurling following the recommendation by the management committee of Meath GAA to propose Seoirse Bulfin as the new senior hurling manager to replace Nick Weir who stepped down from the role last week.

Bulfin was lead coach under the management of Weir in 2022 and while results didn't go according to plan with Meath relegated from both NHL Div 2A and the Joe McDonagh Cup, there was an overwhelming sense that Meath were making progression under Bulfin's highly regarded coaching.

This is Bulfin's first foray into inter-county management and he has opted to retain Steven Clynch and David Reilly as his selectors. There are expected to be further additions to the management team with Ciaran Keogh to link up as strength and conditioning coach.

Limerick man Bulfin's Meath role brought to an end an 18 year association for Bulfin and Davy Fitzgerald - the last 11 years at inter-county level.

The pair first worked together at Fitzgibbon Cup level in LIT, where Bulfin was the GAA officer and later Sports officer.

Bulfin went on to be Fitzgerald's right hand man with Waterford (one year), Clare (five years) and Wexford (five years).

Meath will play in the tier three, the Christy Ring Cup, in the 2023 championship; along with Derry, London, Mayo, Sligo and Tyrone.
