Nelson steps down as O'Mahonys manager

Gaeil Colmcille appoint Luke Dempsey as new manager

Undoubtedly one of the most successful players and managers in Navan O'Mahonys history, davy Nelson today stepped down from his role as senior football manager just a week after guiding his side to safety with their SFC relegation final win over Dunshaughlin.

The Brews Hill club issued a statement thanking Nelson for his work.

"We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Davy Nelson as he steps down from his role as senior football manager

Navan O'Mahony's has proudly claimed the Keegan Cup on twenty occasions and it is a testament to Davy that he has been involved as player or manager on half of these victories - 6 as a player and 4 as a manager

After taking the management job in 1997 he claimed the Keegan Cup in his first year. His second stint as manager saw the prized cup return to Brews Hill three times, in 2012 and back to back in 2014-15.

His third stint as manager came at a time of transition for the senior footballers, and securing senior status this year is arguably as important as any championships won

Davy's passion, positivity and enthusiasm for football, but particularly Navan O'Mahony's is infectious and we wish him well in future endeavours. We are sure he'll be no stranger around Paddy O'Brien Park."

Gaeil Colmcille have wasted no time in finding a replacement for Lar Wall with former Westmeath boss Luke Dempsey announced as new manager of the Kells' side's senior football team for 2022
