Cancer survivor mum to undergo head shave for fundraiser
A mother and son will have their heads shaved on Wednesday night of next week to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society. Elma Marry, who is a cancer survivor, and her son, John will be among those who will have their heads shaved or dyed in the fundraiser in Beggy's Bar, Bridge Street, which is organised by Elma as part of the Today FM 'Shave or Dye' campaign. Elma says that while the event is very much about raising funds for the work of the Irish Cancer Society, it is also about raising awareness and showing that there is life after cancer. She promises a fun night out, with music by Cormac O'Keeffe and friends. Cormac is a friend of her other son, Robert, who lives in London. Gus Martyn from Dunderry will be MC for the evening and there will be lots of spot prizes. Barber Stephen O'Rourke will be on duty to shave the heads. "You dont have to have anything shaved or dyed to come along and support it," she said.
