Séamus McMenamin (Green Party)
Dr Séamus McMenamin is a 36-year-old family doctor who lives and works in Navan. He is a first-time general election candidate and decided to enter politics due to concerns over cuts to health services in Counties Meath and Westmeath and the downgrade of Navan Hospital, in particular.
He wants to use his experience as a former chairperson of NEDoC and as a local GP to fight for improved health services in the area and oppose any change to Navan Hospital’s status.
He has been involved in community groups such as Navan Theatre Group and is a doctor to the Meath senior inter-county football team.
“Short-term and short-sighted planning in the health service, in housing and in flood defences has cost us all. We need to change how we do things and elect people who can think ahead but act now,” he says.
He is vice-chairperson of Meath Green Party and has worked on the party’s health policy group developing its health policy.
His priorities include retaining services in Navan Hospital, practical solutions to the housing crisis and free healthy school dinners.
