Damien English (Fine Gael)
Damien English was first elected to the Dail in 2002 and is currently Junior Minister for Skills, Research and Innovation.
He says it has been an honour to serve the people of Meath West as their local TD and believes he has been a strong voice on their behalf in the Dáil. He keeps in touch with constituents through regular newsletters, clinics, home visits and meetings.
As Minister for Skills, Research and Innovation, he is focused on job creation, working with Enterprise Ireland, IDA and Science Foundation Ireland to secure sustainable jobs and investment for Meath West. He says he has also worked to ensure increased investment in local schools and further education facilities.
Nationally, Deputy English reformed the system of further education and training, including the creation of 25 new apprenticeship schemes. He published 'Innovation 2020’, Ireland’s five-year strategy for research and innovation, and the new National Skills Strategy.
“The challenge for the next Dáil is to continue our economic recovery through sustainable growth, providing jobs for all those seeking employment, and to use any additional revenue to the State to invest in better local services,” he adds.
