Laytown school's specialist classrooms now in use
Pupils and staff of Coláiste na hInse in Laytown's moved into their new €500,000 temporary school building in the past week. The building is composed of five specialist classrooms, including art, woodwork, kitchen, computer room and science laboratory, as well as a storeroom and administration office. Regular classes also continue in the old Neptune Beach Hotel building, which has housed the school since it opened in 2008. Outside the new building there is a basketball court and football pitch and the new building is approximately 100m in front of Scoil Oilibhéar Naofa, which will be home to Coláiste na hInse from next June until August 2011 when the permanent building is due for completion. The new building has already been christened 'An Dánlann' which, in old Irish, means 'centre of learning', which is in line with the school's outstanding and award-winning dedication to the Irish language. While the Halloween break may have been a time for rest and recreation for other schools, it was a hive a of activity in Bettystown as equipment was transported and unloaded to the new building. Students and teachers alike are excited about using the premises and, with some very well thought-out timetabling, a lot of unnecessary travelling between the two school sites has been avoided.
