Stamullen needs new cemetery: Harding
A call for a new graveyard for the community in Stamullen has been made by Cllr Wayne Harding. He said that he had received representations that the existing graveyard was full and that people were having to go outside the parish to bury relatives. He said he had seen that there was €1.3 million in the capital budget for graveyards in the next three years and he felt that Stamullen should be facilitated within that budget. Cllr Ann Dillon Gallagher seconded his motion, but suggested that parishes could approach farmers who might be willing to donate land for this purpose. She said she knew of instances where this had happened. Cllr Jimmy Cudden said he was in support of this kind of approach. However, he said a certain type of land was needed for the purpose. "You might have 100 acres of land immediately around a village and not one acre might be suitable for a graveyard," he said.
