Activity park opens at Claremont
Following the opening of a new outdoor activity park at Navan's Claremont Stadium, on Monday, the management committee has moved to reassure the public that the facility is alive and kicking with its huge range of sporting and community activities continuing as normal. With several new programmes coming on-stream for the facility, including health community and education projects, rumours that the facility is in trouble have been dismissed by the committee. Centre manager Marjan Boers, said that like all voluntary organisations, they are struggling in these difficult times, and are relying on sponsorship and fundraising, but they are still going strong and activites are increasing all the time. She said the bar facility had closed last January because it was not economically viable, but otherwise the facility is as strong as ever. "We are still looking for sponsorship, as we don't charge the many community groups and clubs commercial rates, we try to give them a decent rate. "We want to thank all the people who have supported us over the years," she said. Among those who have helped out the facility, which is run by a volunary committee made up of representatives of Parkvilla FC and Navan AC, have been Navan Town Council and local TDs and councillors. Meanwhile there were celebrations at the stadium this week when the Mayor of Navan, Cllr Anton McCabe, officially opened the outdoor activity park. The park has been developed to for adults and people with disabilities and comprises of a number of activity stations, designed to make users stronger, more energetic and more able to complete real-life activities. Funding for the Outdoor Activity Park was provided under the HSE Rapid Leverage Scheme with support from Meath County Council and Navan Town Council.
