Knife-wielding raider arrested following Clonee takeaway robbery

A 34 year-old man was arrested last night following a robbery in Clonee.
Gardaí were alerted to the robbery at a fast food outlet in the village at 11.50pm.

A male wearing a balaclava and brandishing a knife entered the premises and forced staff to hand over cash before leaving the scene in a silver car.

Units from Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne and the Divisional Traffic Unit responded and commenced searches of the area. The suspect car was spotted in a local carpark.

The driver fled the scene as Gardai approached but he was subsequently stopped by Gardaí. A quantity of cash was found in the vehicle and the occupant was arrested.

He was taken to Ashbourne Garda Station and detained under Section 4, Criminal Justice Act. He was later released and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
