Fox leads Kildalkey to sweet victory
Tony Fox rolled back the years to lead Kildalkey to a 2-15 to 1-10 victory over Kiltale in the Div 2 HC final at Ashbourne tonight.
Fox, who was team captain, scored 11 points including a series of superbly-taken frees as the Village side captured the Foran Cup.
Kildalkey, managed by Nicky Potterton, led 0-9 to 0-6 at the break and victory was all but secured in the early stages of the second-half with the help of two quick-fire goals from Tiernan Bird and Brendan McKeon.
Kiltale, who led in the early stages of the game before they lost momentum, hit a late goal when Adam Murphy found the net from a free but it proved a mere consolation. Kiltale also had TJ Lynch red-carded in the second-half.
This was the first of three big games for Kildalkey this weekend. Their first team play Dunboyne in the SHC semi-final tomorrow while on Sunday the Village take on O'Mahonys in the last four of the IHC at Athboy.
