M3 car tolls unchanged but HGV charges to rise from January

Car and motorcycle tolls on the M3 Clonee to Kells motorway will remain unchanged from January, but heavier goods vehicles will face an increase.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has confirmed the toll changes which will come into effect across the national road network on January 1, 2027.

While motorists travelling on the M3 will avoid an increase in car and motorcycle charges, heavier HGVs using the motorway will face a 10c rise.

The increase is lower than those applying to some other toll roads, where heavier HGV charges will rise by 20c, with vehicles weighing more than 3,500kg and having four axles facing an increase of 30c.

The M3 connects Clonee, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Navan and Kells, with two toll plazas serving the route.

Elsewhere, car tolls at other public-private partnership (PPP) toll locations will increase by 10c.

The M50 will also see increases, with car users who have a tag or video account paying an additional 10c, while those without a tag will face a 20c increase.

The southbound Dublin Port Tunnel charge during weekday morning peak hours, between 6am and 10am, will rise by €1, from €14 to €15.

TII said the changes follow the application of an inflation rate of 3.6 per cent for the 12 months to August 2026.

The authority said toll revenue supports the operation, maintenance and life-cycle management of the national road network.
