Laytown actor joins Halloween special line-up for The Late Late Show

Laytown actor Clinton Liberty will be among the guests on tomorrow night's Halloween special of The Late Late Show, where he will discuss his latest television project alongside fellow actor Kate Mulgrew.

The Laytown native, who has gained international recognition for his role as Addam of Hull in HBO’s House of the Dragon, will join host Patrick Kielty to talk about RTÉ’s upcoming crime drama The Galway Bay Murders.

Liberty grew up in Laytown and attended Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh before moving on to Coláiste na hInse in Bettystown. He previously came to wider public attention for his role in the television adaptation of Sally Rooney’s Normal People.

He and Mulgrew, best known for Star Trek: Voyager and Orange Is the New Black, will discuss filming the new six-part drama on Ireland’s west coast, as well as their experience of working with acclaimed Irish actor Colm Meaney.

The Galway Bay Murders, filmed in Conamara, follows a New York detective who returns to her family home in Galway and becomes involved in a murder investigation. The series begins on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player on Sunday, November 8.

Tomorrow night’s Halloween-themed programme will also celebrate the career of veteran Irish actress Fionnula Flanagan, who will be honoured for a career spanning more than 60 years across stage and screen.

Flanagan’s credits include The Guard, The Others, Transamerica, Lost, Star Trek and Murder, She Wrote. After spending six decades living in Hollywood, she moved back to Ireland in 2024.

Former Liveline presenter Joe Duffy will join Kielty to discuss his latest book, which draws on the stories shared by callers during his nearly 30 years presenting the RTÉ Radio 1 programme.

Comedian and podcaster Shane Daniel Byrne will talk about his new show, Baby This Time, and his upcoming role as Clarence in The Gate Theatre’s production of It’s A Wonderful Life.

Also appearing will be Joe McGucken, star of RTÉ KIDS supernatural comedy drama The Unreal and host of the Ramble podcast. Music on the night will come from singer Toshín.

The Halloween special of The Late Late Show airs on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player tomorrow, Friday, at 9.35pm.
