Will be hard to separate O'Mahonys and Trim
TOMMY MATTHEWS
Trim and Navan O’Mahonys have become well-acquainted with each other over the last number of years and they will renew rivalries on Sunday at a time and venue still to be confirmed.
The old town foes met in the Intermediate final in Trim in 2023, where the home side won by a single point, and the two sides have been on very similar trajectories since then.
The Intermediate title was O’Mahonys the following year and both teams lost Senior B finals in their first year at the grade.
They faced off in the 2025 Div 3 league final, which O’Mahonys won by 10 and Navan also came out on top in last year’s championship meeting.
However, this year, Trim turned around a five-point half-time deficit to defeat O’Mahonys by seven in the opening round.
Trim have been knocking on the door of Senior A since they arrived in Senior B in 2024. They lost the final to Boardsmill that year and lost by a goal to Blackhall Gaels in the semi-final last year.
Ellen Murray has been outstanding in their 2026 campaign and with Shona White back from rugby duty, alongside Emma Hannifin, Ellen Birmingham, Alex Donoghue and a host of county u-23s, Trim have strength throughout.
Kildalkey ran Trim closer than expected in the semi-final, but nonetheless Anton O’Neill’s charges head into the final as the in-form team in this year’s competition.
However, Navan O’Mahonys are a force to be reckoned with.
They bounced back in impressive fashion after their second-half collapse against Trim in the opening round and have consistently racked up high scores in their games.
Intermediate winners in 2024, Donal Hogan’s team are well-organised at the back and have major attacking threats.
Isabel O’Connor, Cara Ratty, Lauren Woods and Jorja Keogh are just a few names that might cause headaches for the Trim defence.
O’Mahonys will be spurred on by the hurt of last year’s defeat to Blackhall Gaels and this year’s league final loss to Drumree after extra-time.
If they can perform to their potential on Sunday, they have what it takes to beat Trim, but this Senior B final is set to go down to the wire.
