Amateur Meath athletes to receive €1,000 bursaries
Meath County Council has approved five bursaries of €1,000 each for amateur Meath athletes across a range of sports.
The Sports Bursary Scheme was established by Meath County Council to support aspiring amateur athletes from County Meath who are competing at the highest levels in their chosen sport and who demonstrate the potential to achieve national and international success.
A total of 30 applications were received for the scheme this year, with two subsequently withdrawn, while five others were deemed invalid. The remaining 23 applications were marked against an assessment criteria including current sporting achievements, future sporting potential, quality of personal statement and proposed expenditure plan with the five who scored the highest recommended to councillors and approved.
They are: Sean Hughes, para powerlifting and athletics; Chloe Poleon, boxing; Shay Duff, Olympic skeet (shooting); Caoimhe Sheila Fitzsimons, athletics and Matthew Walls, road cycling.
