Fundraising appeal to help the family of Kells native killed in New York collision

A fundraiser has been launched by Gaeil Colmcille GFC to support the family of former member and friend, Christopher 'Crickey' Roche, following his tragic death in a road traffic accident in New York last Friday.

Crickey was a hugely talented footballer and hurler and a proud member of Gaeil Colmcille. He was part of the 1991 Meath Senior Championship-winning team, a group that holds a very special place in the history of the club.

Originally from Fr McCullen Park in Kells, Crickey later emigrated to America, where he built a life and raised his family. He and his wife Siobhan have seven children, aged between 11 and 19.

Tragically, Crickey lost his life in the accident, while Siobhan was also seriously injured. Their family is now facing an unimaginable loss and a very difficult road ahead.

To date over €29,000 has been donated to help support the Roche family.

"As a club, we want to do what we can to support Crickey's wife and their seven children during this devastating time," the club said in its appeal on Gofundme.

"We are asking friends of Gaeil Colmcille, the wider GAA community, the people of Kells and Meath, and all those who knew Crickey during his years at home and abroad to come together and help his family.

"Any contribution, no matter how large or small, will make a difference and will go towards supporting his wife and children as they navigate the difficult months and years ahead.

"For those who knew Crickey, this is an opportunity to remember a wonderful footballer, hurler, teammate, friend and proud Gaeil..

"For those who did not know him, we hope you will help us support a family who have suffered an unimaginable loss."
