Gormanston farm again targeted by thieves... 'It makes you question why you put your heart and soul into things'

The owner of Elmgrove Flower Farm in Gormanston took to social media this morning (Wednesday, October 7) to share the news his premises suffered another break-in.

In a social media post Elmgrove owner Darragh McCullough said: "Darragh has a message... There's really no need for this now lads."

"Not such great news this morning. When Jill and Carol arrived in they had found that we had been broken into... again."

Despite the incident, the East Meath business owner was seemingly able to remain in positive spirits.

"Just in case anyone is unsure of the facts out there, we are actually open from nine in the morning, until six in the evening. So, you don't have to try and get your flowers in the middle of the night.

"We are delighted to business with you - in the middle of the day."

Unfortunately for Darragh, the business has been targeted before. "It's not the first time it's happened. We would have been burgled approximately two years ago," he told the Meath Chronicle.

"On both occasions, the intruders got absolutely nothing."

Despite there being some remedy in the thieves leaving empty handed, Darragh did describe the situation as 'unnerving', especially for his female staff who made this discovery this morning.

"We have no cash on the premises at night time, very little during the day. 80% of the transactions we do are with card.

"We're a small, little, independent retail business... All they're doing is causing hassle for small business owners like myself."

He also stated that damages caused by the break-in to the front door could be costly as well. "In one way or another, someone in picking up the tab. In this case, it's the business owner.

"It can be very disheartening. It's one of those things that makes you question why you put your heart and soul into things."

Although Darragh and his team felt the blow, he made sure to not let it interrupt proceedings at Elmgrove Farm.

"We tried not to let it upset business too much. We opened as normal and we will continue to trade as normal.

"We've got a busy Halloween period coming up, and we hope to see everyone as per usual."
