Kilmainham brush aside the 'Mill to secure final place

Mickey Newman effectively put this Junior B FC semi-final clash to bed when he burst through the Boardsmill defence and scored Kilmainham’s third goal in the third quarter at Cortown on Friday.
The weather made conditions tricky, but it didn't stop both sides from producing an entertaining, high-scoring contest. Straight from the throw-in Mickey Newman sliced open the Boardsmill defence and set up Michael Hoey for a goal.
Boardsmill got off the mark with two frees in quick succession but Dylan Morgan extended Kilmainham’s early advantage with a well-struck two-pointer and a brace of points. Boardsmill were reduced to 14 men temporarily when one of their defenders picked up a black card for dissent.
Mark Newman then capitalised on an error by the Boardsmill 'keeper and rattled the net for his side’s second green flag. The lead grew further when Morgan and Hoey both split the posts, and at half-time Kilmainham were firmly in the driving seat with a 2-7 to 0-5 advantage.
Boardsmill started the second-half with intent and reduced the gap back to six points with two frees. Mickey Newman swung momentum back in favour of the eventual winners when he burst through the heart of the defence, linked up well with Dylan Morgan before he side-footed the ball past the keeper.
Boardsmill were handed a sliver of hope when Mark Newman received a black card midway through the second-half. The Mill capitalised on the numerical advantage and raised a green flag of their own.
However, scores from Morgan, Hoey and Mark Newman when he reentered the fray maintained a healthy cushion for Kilmainham.
The eventual winners managed the game well and closed out the contest with a fair bit in hand.
The victory set up a clash with Kilmainhamwood in the Junior B FC decider on Sunday 4th October at Grangegodden.
