Summerhill possess enough ammunition to shoot down ‘Cilles

You have to go the whole way back to 2018 to find the last time Summerhill and St Colmcille's met in the Meath SFC and that occasion was also a quarter-final where Summerhill won comfortably before eventually losing out to St Peter's in the final.

Since then St Colmcille's have featured in more relegation play-offs than knockout stages, whereas Summerhill have been in five of the eight finals since that last meeting and it would be a brave man to bet against them making it six in nine.

Only a handful of players remain from the sides that met in 2018, yet despite copious amounts of underage success St Colmcille's have not kicked on in the same manner as Summerhill who consistently seem to find gem after gem.

This time last year St Colmcille's found themselves in serious relegation trouble having finished bottom of a group that included Ballinabrackey, Seneschalstown and Ratoath. This year they emerged from a similar group with Wolfe Tones instead of Ratoath being the only different opposition.

Key to St Colmcille's chances is the availability of James Conlon. The Meath star missed the round two loss to Wolfe Tones and the narrow win over Ballinabrackey which secured the quarter-final spot. However, the Meath star is expected to be available for Sunday's big test in Trim.

However Conlon's fitness is unlikely to impact on the result such has been the dominance and impressive progression of the defending champions who have produced so many statement performances this year to not only win FL Div 1, but to march through their group unbeaten.

Summerhill have threats all over the field and with Adam Flanagan returning late to the party, Adam McDonnell and Diarmuid McCabe returning from injury and Ronan Ryan close to recovering from a broken arm the champions appear to be getting stronger and stronger.

The Frayne brothers have been a serious scoring threat with the older of the pair, Conor, bagging four goals in the three group games to give an indication of just how prolific he came be.

Summerhill have threats all over the field and while St Colmcille's might see this quarter-final as welcome relief from relegation worries in recent years, they could be in for a long afternoon against the champions who appear destined to retain their crown. Verdict - Summerhill.
