Slane on standby as Oasis announcement imminent
Oasis fans are on standby, with an announcement expected at around 4pm today amid mounting speculation that the band could be set to return to Slane Castle.
The speculation follows a cryptic video shared by the band which appears to show Liam Gallagher on stage at Slane Castle.
The iconic Boyne Valley venue has been strongly linked to the speculation and a return to Slane would be a significant moment for both Oasis fans and the village, given the band’s history at the venue.
Oasis first played at Slane Castle in July 1995, appearing as a support act to headliners R.E.M. during the early years of their rise to international fame.
That concert became one of the defining moments of the band’s early career, with the group performing to a huge crowd at the historic venue.
The prospect of another Oasis concert comes after the Gallagher brothers reunited last year for their long-awaited return to live performance, generating enormous interest internationally.
Slane Castle has hosted some of the biggest names in music over the years, including U2, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna and Harry Styles.
Any potential Oasis announcement will come as Slane prepares for two Fontaines D.C. concerts at the castle in June 2027.
The licensing arrangements for those shows included a commitment from promoter MCD to establish a €61,000 community fund for local initiatives, amid wider discussion about the impact of major concerts on the Slane community.
The prospect of another major concert is therefore likely to be viewed in the context of both the opportunities and pressures associated with large-scale events in the area.
With the Fontaines D.C. shows already scheduled for June, any Oasis concert would add to what is shaping up to be a busy period for Slane Castle.
The Oasis concert of 1995 remains one of the most memorable events in Slane’s musical history. The band was at the beginning of its transformation into one of the biggest acts of the Britpop era, and its appearance at the castle has retained a special place in the venue’s story.
For now, fans and the local community await the expected announcement, with the possibility that Oasis could once again take to the stage at Slane Castle.
