Moynalvey maintain push for honours

Moynalvey 1-18

Dunsany 1-10

Moynalvey progressed to the knock-out stages of the IFC with a comfortable eight-point win over Dunsany on Friday evening in Dunboyne. Barry O’Keefe’s side will now play St Patrick’s in the quarter-final in two weeks.

Moynalvey responded to an early Stephen Cahill point with a well-struck two-pointer from the boot of Mark O’Sullivan. Hugh O’Sullivan extended Moynalvey’s early advantage with a brace of points before Vinny Walsh showed great composure to side-step a few Dunsany defenders and find the back of the net from close range. That green flag gave Moynalvey a 1-4 to 0-1 lead after 11 minutes.

Cahill notched another two points for Dunsany but the O’Sullivan brothers helped Moynalvey pull clear of the opposition with several scores which included a lovely a two-point free from Cillian O’Sullivan and at the break Moynalvey led 1-10 to 0-3.

Two-point efforts from Kris Gorman and Cahill after the restart brought Dunsany back into contention but Hugh and Cillian O’Sullivan kept Moynalvey’s tally ticking over with two fine points.

Adam Murphy followed up a Hugh O’Sullivan point with a lovely score that curled between the posts. Dunsany then experienced a purple patch. Points from Lorcan Byrne, Stephen Cahill and a goal from Cian O’Sullivan reduced the gap back to six points with seven minutes left.

Moynalvey closed out the game well though with scores from Barry Walsh, Cillian O’Sullivan and David McLoughlin.
