Five-storey retail development proposed for Dunshaughlin's Main Street
A new five-storey building with retail at ground floor and apartments above could be on the cards for Dunshaughlin's Main Street if a recently lodged planning application is approved.
Paul Brophy is seeking planning permission to demolish two derelict cottages on a 0.28 hectares site between the library building and Foley's Auctioneers, opposite St Seachnall's Primary school, and to construct a five-storey mixed use building with both residential and commercial accommodation.
Plans provide for three retail units at ground floor level and 28 apartments on the upper floors above. The apartments are made up of 16 one-bedroom, 10 two-bedroom and two three-bedroom units.
Vehicle access is proposed from Main Street and 33 car parking spaces are to be provided made up of one space per apartment and five visitor spaces for the retail units/apartments. Three existing spaces will also be retained.
The plans also include two pedestrian entrances, cycle parking for 60 bicycles, an ESB substaion, bin storage and communal amenity space in the form of a roof gardens. Each unit would have private open space in the form of balconies/terraces.
The building height varies between three and four storeys along the front elevation, with a fifth-floor level provided as a set-back element.
